Privacy Policy — Playbit

Overview

Playbit ("the app") is a personal gaming journal for iOS and iPadOS. This policy explains what data the app collects, how it is stored, and who can access it.

The app is designed with privacy as a default: your journal content stays on your device and, optionally, in your personal iCloud account. We do not run servers that store your journal content. The only optional feature that uses the internet for a third-party service is cover art search (described below).

What Data the App Stores

Your journal data is saved on your device. If you turn on iCloud sync, it is also synced to your personal iCloud account.

Journal content (games, entries, notes, and their photos) is not sent to our analytics systems or sold to third parties. Cover art search is a separate, optional feature and does not upload your journal entries or notes.

iCloud Sync (Optional)

If you enable iCloud sync in Settings, your game library, entries, and notes are synced through Apple CloudKit using your personal iCloud account. This data:

  • Lives in your iCloud account under a private CloudKit container.

  • Is governed by Apple's iCloud Privacy Policy.

  • Is accessible only by you and Apple (per Apple's terms).

  • Can be deleted at any time from Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage on your device.

Cover Art Search (Optional)

When you use Search cover art while adding or editing a game, the app sends your search text to a third-party cover catalog (SteamGridDB) so matching games and cover images can be shown. If you select a result, the app may download the cover image you choose.

Your journal entries, notes, to-dos, entry photos, and full game library are not sent as part of cover search.

Cover images you choose are stored on your device (and in iCloud if sync is enabled), the same way as covers you pick from Photos, Camera, or Files.

SteamGridDB is not owned or operated by Playbit. Its content and practices are subject to SteamGridDB’s own terms and privacy policy. See also the app’s Terms of Use regarding suitability of cover artwork.

Photos, Camera, and Files

The app may request access to your Photo Library, Camera, and/or Files so you can attach images to journal entries. Images are:

  • Stored on-device (and synced via iCloud if enabled).

  • Never uploaded to analytics or advertising services we operate.

  • Never sold to third parties.

Analytics and Crash Reporting

The app does not include any third-party analytics SDK (e.g. Firebase, Mixpanel, Amplitude). No usage or crash data is collected or transmitted to us.

Data You Can Delete

You can delete all app data at any time by:

  1. Deleting the app — removes all local SwiftData stores and UserDefaults.

  2. Removing from iCloud — go to Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage → Playbit → Delete Data.

There is no account to delete because we do not maintain any server-side account for your journal.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. Cover art search may return third-party images; see the Terms of Use for guidance if you are under 18.

Changes to This Policy

If the app introduces features that change how data is handled, this file will be updated and the "Last updated" date at the top will change. Significant changes will also be noted in CHANGELOG.md.
