Privacy Policy — Playbit

Overview

Playbit ("the app") is a personal gaming journal for iOS and iPadOS. This policy explains what data the app collects, how it is stored, and who can access it.

The app is designed with privacy as a default: your journal content stays on your device and, optionally, in your personal iCloud account. We do not run servers that store your journal content. Optional Look up and Search Covers may send search text over the internet to IGDB (described below).

What Data the App Stores

Your journal data is saved on your device. If you turn on iCloud sync, it is also synced to your personal iCloud account.

Notes Title, rich-text body (may include inline images if present)
App preferences Theme, stack future entries, side-by-side layout (iPad), library status filter, iCloud sync preference, onboarding and terms-acceptance flags (stored on your device only; not part of your synced journal)

Journal content (games, entries, notes, and their photos) is not sent to our analytics systems or sold to third parties. Look up / Search Covers are separate, optional features and do not upload your journal entries or notes.

iCloud Sync (Optional)

If you enable iCloud sync in Settings, your game library, entries, and notes are synced through Apple CloudKit using your personal iCloud account. This data:

  • Lives in your iCloud account under a private CloudKit container.
  • Is governed by Apple's iCloud Privacy Policy.
  • Is accessible only by you and Apple (per Apple's terms).
  • Can be deleted at any time from Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage on your device.

Look up and Search Covers (Optional)

When you use Look up or Search Covers while adding or editing a game, the app sends your search text through a proxy we operate to IGDB so matching games and cover images can be shown. A cover image is downloaded from IGDB only when you choose to use it (Look up’s Cover option, or Search Covers).

  • Look up — you choose which fields to apply (title, description, cover, platform).
  • Search Covers — cover art only.
  • Data is provided by IGDB (igdb.com). Attribution appears in the search sheet.

Your journal entries, notes, to-dos, entry photos, and full game library are not sent as part of these searches.

Cover images and any text you apply from Look up are stored on your device (and in iCloud if sync is enabled), the same way as covers you pick from Photos, Camera, or Files. You can edit or clear that text anytime.

IGDB is not owned or operated by Playbit. Its content and practices are subject to its own terms and privacy policies. See also the app’s Terms of Use regarding suitability of cover artwork.

Photos, Camera, and Files

The app may request access to your Photo Library, Camera, and/or Files so you can attach images to journal entries or set a game cover. Images are:

  • Stored on-device (and synced via iCloud if enabled).
  • Never uploaded to analytics or advertising services we operate.
  • Never sold to third parties.

Analytics and Crash Reporting

The app does not include any third-party analytics SDK (e.g. Firebase, Mixpanel, Amplitude). No usage or crash data is collected or transmitted to us.

Data You Can Delete

You can delete all app data at any time by:

  1. Deleting the app — removes all local SwiftData stores and UserDefaults.
  2. Removing from iCloud — go to Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage → Playbit → Delete Data.

There is no account to delete because we do not maintain any server-side account for your journal.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. Cover art search may return third-party images; see the Terms of Use for guidance if you are under 18.

Changes to This Policy

If the app introduces features that change how data is handled, this file will be updated and the "Last updated" date at the top will change.
